Tour of the Harold Washington Collection During ALA Annual

The Chicago Chapter of BCALA and the Chicago Public Library’s African American Services Committee invite you to attend a tour of the Harold Washington Collection followed by a reception.

Lower Level Reception Hall

Time: 2:00-4:30pm

See the exhibit (and archives) about Harold Washington, the first African American Mayor of Chicago. Highlights include: the annotated 1982 speech he gave to kick off his campaign for mayor; a letter from Coretta Scott King about his efforts to establish Dr. King’s birthday as a holiday in Illinois; campaign flyers and buttons; documents setting out his goals as Mayor; the architectural model for the Harold Washington Library Center  — and hear his voice fill the exhibit hall in recorded speeches. We also will preview the new exhibit on Rev. Clay Evans, which will open this summer.
